Frequently Asked Questions

What are BricsCAD's minimal hardware and system requirements?

BricsCAD requires the following minimal system requirements:

Key differences include:

  • Operating System: Linux, MacOS 12 and later, Windows 10, and Windows 11 (x64). (For further information, see the help article.)
  • Processor: BricsCAD® will always function well on the CPU with the highest single-thread performance rating.
  • RAM: For larger or more complicated drawings, at least 8 GB of memory—16 GB or more—is advised.
  • Hard Drive: A minimum of 3 GB of free space.
  • Display: A Full HD (1920x1080) monitor at the very least.
  • Graphics Card: A video card compatible with DirectX 9 or later.
  • Internet connection: For activation, a reliable Internet connection and a few other features are needed.

It's crucial to remember that these are the bare minimum specifications, and they could change based on how complicated your designs are and what other programs are installed on your computer. It is advised to have a more durable design with a quick CPU, additional memory, and a dedicated graphics card to guarantee peak performance.

Which BricsCAD edition should I choose - Lite, Pro, BIM, Mechanical, or Ultimate?

Ultimate? Your work needs will determine which BricsCAD edition is best for you.

  • Lite: Ideal for 2D drafting and documentation.
  • Pro: Provides support for third-party applications, and 3D modeling and constraints.
  • BIM: Ideal for building design and construction workflows.
  • Mechanical: Ideal for BOM automation, sheet metal, and assemblies.
  • Ultimate: Consists of every functionality.

We'll suggest the best edition according to your needs if you're not sure.

How can I update to BricsCAD's most recent version?

Visit the "My account" section to view your individual software key upgrade costs after logging in with your Bricsys account.

How can I get a free 30-day BricsCAD trial?

You can launch a trial version of BricsCAD in the BricsCAD launcher when you first download the BricsCAD installer. This trial will end after 30 days. You will be prompted by the launcher to enter a legitimate license key. Reinstalling BricsCAD is not necessary.

Can I purchase an older version of a BricsCAD license?

Only the most recent version of BricsCAD is available for purchase. This license, however, is only compatible with BricsCAD versions up to V14.

Is it possible to move my BricsCAD license to a different computer?

Yes. The license can be easily deactivated on the old computer and reactivated on the new one.
(The license is transferable between Mac and PC):

  • 1. On the old computer, first disable your license.
  • 2. You can reactivate the license on a different computer once it has been deactivated.

After downloading, will I receive technical assistance?

Yes. Modelcam Technologies offers technical support for setup and configuration, activation assistance, and installation support.

Can DWG files made in AutoCAD be opened by BricsCAD?

Absolutely. The normal DWG format is used by BricsCAD; no conversion is required.

Is LISP, VBA, and API modification supported by BricsCAD?

Yes. BricsCAD is very adaptable for automation and custom tools because it supports LISP, VBA, BRX, and.NET APIs.

How does BricsCAD manage heavy models and large drawings?

Compared to competing DWG-based CAD programs, BricsCAD has faster load times and more smooth navigation because of its effective memory allocation and GPU acceleration.
